Overview En dag drar mamma

The Day Mom Left is a picture book about losing someone and then losing your sense of reality. With the help of a good grasp of the visual and a poetic text, Kaia Dahle Nyhus captures the understanding of loss and want with warmth and humour.

Chosen as a White Raven for 2017.

The difficult conversations
This beautiful story about how longing and sorrow can make a child loose foothold, is told in a simplistic text that is open for building it further. The conscious use of visual means like contoure, perspective, colour, frames and cut outs, fills out the verbal text even more. That makes this picture book admirable, and it strengthens Kaia Dahle Nyhus´position in the line of great Norwegian picture book authors.

When Mother breaks away
The abstract illustrations with colours and shapes that invite the reader to fictionalize even more, is the strength of the book art of Kaia Dahle Nyhus. The Day Mom Left invites to read together, and the grown up and child can enter a conversation about a topic that touches many.

Reviews En dag drar mamma
