Block to Block is about ending up where you are, not because of, but despite of. Don Martin, Castro, and Fela are famous Norwegian rap artists, who are now sharing their stories and taking the readers into their block of flats, behind their music and lyrics. This is a vivid and tough depiction of growing up from East Oslo. It’s original and quick-mouthed, uncompromising, and important. These are vital voices that deserve to be heard.
The book is a cool, commercial, and original book about a rough life on the Eastside of Oslo. At the same time, it’s a vulnerable family story about suicide, and not least the story of when hip hop came to Norway.
This graphic novel is based on the hip hop show Block to Block with Don Martin, Fela and Castro, which was a breakout success at Det Norske Teatret.
Reviews for the show
"Block to Block is about keeping your pride when others try to bring you down. About finding your own rhythm when life doesn’t have any. (…) An experience that’s bigger than a concert and richer than a normal show."
Aftenposten
"Block to Block is a personal and important show, told by those who could have fallen outside of society."
Morgenbladet
