Gabriel is a monk of the Dominican Order. He lives in a monastery in Bergen and lives a routine life in the name of God. He prays Lauds every morning, knits socks for his fellow brothers, gives lectures in theology, but also plays Playstation, falls in love and has a beer every now and then. The brotherhood in the monastery is tight knit, and Gabriel feels he has cracked the code to a deeply religious life.

Yet, outside the monastery walls is the person who is closest to him: his little brother Jonas. They share a traumatic event in their childhood, a trauma that led them on very different paths in life. While Gabriel is treading along the narrow path, his little brother speeds off on a highway in the wrong direction. Their contact is turbulent and sporadic, and when Jonas suddenly appears in Bergen after a year of silence, Gabriel is pulled out of his blissful existence. The questions soon begin to spin. Why did he retreat to the monastery? Who is God and Jonas in his life? And can devotion turn into addiction?
