Gert Nygårdshaug (b. 1946) has had a fascinating and original literary career. Since his debut in 1966 his broad knowledge and vivid imagination have found expression over 30, including Mengele Zoo (Mengele Zoo), 1989 and Prost Gotvins geometri (Priest Gotvin's Geometry), 1998. When the latter was released in Denmark in 1999, a united press placed Nygårdshaug in the same league as literary giants like Umberto Eco and Peter Høeg and the Norwegians Jan Kjærstad and Erik Fosnes Hansen. His novel Mengele Zoo was in 2007 voted Norway's best book throughout time by Norwegian readers.
