Vigdis Hjorth becomes the first ever recipient of the Sara Danius Prize.

Sara Danius's family created the memorial fund after the death of the literary historian in 2019, and the award is given to female pioneers in essay writing, criticism, humanistic research, journalism and artistic activities.

The jury awards the prize to Vigdis Hjorth for her ground-breaking and magnificent narrative voice, which with style and sting challenges the established.

The jury consists of dramatist Sara Stridsberg, critic Malin Ullgren, literary scholar Daniel Sandström, and professor and author Stefan Jonsson. The prize will be presented in Stockholm on May 3rd.
