Last week illustrator Jannicke Hansen was awarded The Ministry of Culture's Illustration Prize for her work in Unsolved Mysteries from Around the World. The book, written by Pernille Radeid, is the second in a series of true crime mysteries. This is the second time Hansen is nominated for this prize.
Jury's Statement
«Illustrator Jannicke Hansen has made an incredible effort in bringing these scary stories to life. The visuals in the book complement the text by mirroring the dark atmosphere, where varied compositions play with movement, light and darkness, and wakes the reader's curiosity for each individual ghost story. A muted colour palette and effective shading emphasise the eerie nature of the stories, while the rough texture of the drawings gives depth and character to the images. The spreads are varied and detailed, and the many full-length illustrations in large format mean that the reader gets up close and is drawn into the story. There is also a unity in the expression that ties the stories together despite the variation in content. The illustrations in Unsolved Mysteries from Around the World are impressive craftsmanship.»
