The title is a quote from Nelly Sachs, whom the main character in the novel is struggling to translate.
Our hero finds herself in a failing relationship – they have bought a farm/place together that they have done up and made their own. An old derelict smallholding that has been transformed into a free artistic paradist on the banks of Tyrifjord. But that was before... now the cracks are starting to show.
It also transpires that this place has a history, a history that literally shows itself. Pauline lived on the farm in days gone by... and things happened back then that mean she has not been able to rest. We all know what happens when spirits cannot rest: they walk again. In other words, they rise from the dead.
Despite this, the story is far from unrealistic. On the contrary, it is relatable and gripping.
