In the middle of 1970s, Torill's family left the familiar surroundings of Hamar, Norway to live in Kenya for three years. The lives of the three sisters change forever.

As expats in Nairobi, the girls suddenly lived a completely new, exotic life. They attend international schools and make new, older friends with motorcycles. Nairobi offered them a different freedom than they had back in their hometown in Norway.

One day, their mother suggests a safari. They hire a car and drive into the savannah. They see elephants, sleep in tents, and when the tyres are punctured they are rescued by a Maasai family.

Three years later the family return to Norway. But did they truly see elephants on the safari trip? The girls cannot agree.

Author Torill Kove

Torill Kove (1958–) has written and illustrated several childrens books based on her animated films. The animated short The Danish Poet won an Oscar in 2007, and she was again nominated for an Oscar for the aminated short Moulton and me. She has also illustrated the Johannes Jensen books, and directed the animated film Hokus Pokus Alfons Åberg (sv.). Torill Kove lives in Canada.
