Overview Møllergata 19

During the Second World War, almost 40,000 Norwegians personally experienced internment in Nazi prisons, prisoner-of-war camps and concentration camps. They were arrested on suspicion of resistance-related activities, for their political and religious beliefs, for deviant sexual orientation, or for being Jewish or Roma. Many became political prisoners for an indefinite period – left to German justice and a fate no longer in their control. Almost 7,000 people were put in the Germans’ main political prison at Møllergata 19. Vegard Sæther sheds light on their story from a broad perspective – the road to imprisonment, torture and their subsequent fate. Over the course of five difficult years, number 19 became an important symbol of the Norwegian resistance movement. The book also looks closely at the captors. Who were they?

Boken om Gestapos verste fengsel: En katalog over ondskap 10.02.2024
