It is late in the evening, way past bedtime. But Janna wants to go fishing with the grown-ups. The sea is teeming with mackerel, and that means a lot of fish on the hook. Monsterbølger is an exciting picture book about being at sea – and about being grown up even when you're little. The idyllic fishing trip becomes a perilous rescue mission, and the author and illustrator use both words and pictures to show that the sea is unpredictable.

This picture book is a successful collaboration between Ingvild Bjerkeland and illustrator Åshild Irgens. Bjerkeland's text is intimate and powerful, and Irgens' illustrations are beautiful, aquamarine and vivid.
