Overview Solguden

The thriller Solguden is a standalone follow-up to Ole Kristian Ellingsen's critically-acclaimed crime debut, Frikjent, which was published in 2014.

The main characters are still freelance TV reporter Erik Engum and librarian Rakel Maier. The story is told in the present and starts on Melkøya in Finnmark, where Prime Minister Erna Solberg is launching a magnificent energy venture in collaboration with Statoil and an idealistic, African biofuel company that wants to provide local farmers with work and an income.

During a trip to Zimbabwe for a news report, Erik Engum happens to discover that the Norwegian head of this company is staying in a luxury safari lodge along with corrupt politicians, scantily-clad women and disreputable businessmen. He suspects that the company has completely different intentions for the Norway collaboration than what the Norwegian government has been led to believe.

Together with a couple of African associates, Erik Engum and Rakel Maier finally expose how Norwegian gullibility and oil wealth is being exploited with a cynical fraud involving both well known heads of state and powerful, white traffickers – Africa's real masters. Raken and Erik's relationship is also under threat from other quarters...

This novel is ficticious, but based on thought-provoking facts from a little known reality.
