On one side of the river lives the tomato farmer, whose family has been condemned and humiliated ever since his grandfather was branded a traitor. On the other side of the river lives the big farmer Mauland, with many pigs in the barn.

The tomato farmer's wife thought that everything was too small and the farming was old-fashioned, and asked her husband to switch to conventional and modern farming, the way most farmers in Jæren operate today. When she couldn't get him to turn her back, she crossed the river and had children with the big farmer. In the middle of this, their son Patrik grows up, and some call him stupid and mentally weak.

Patrik goes through puberty this summer. He walks across the bridge and opens the door to the pigpen in the middle of a bright summer night. Patrik's father is developing a new plant this season that he believes will revolutionise agriculture. Patrik's mother tries to get her boy to accept her, and in the end she makes a maneuver that turns everything upside down. Or: Tragedy was inevitable, what she does is perhaps just the final drop.

Pig is a Greek drama set to the Western coast of present Norway, about humiliation, betrayal, love, fall and revenge. The language is dense and poetic, the thoughts can go to the darkest stories from the Old Testament, inspired by the style of Agota Kristof and John Steinbeck.
