In Beasts, we left Abid and Alva on the edge of survival, fleeing through the forest and reaching the ocean with the beasts on their heels. On the final page, they rushed into a small rubber boat, heading toward the unknown dark sea.

Now, in Nowhere To Hide, Abid and Alva’s desperate journey continues. Their small rubber boat battles its way through the waves, heading for Shetland in search of sanctuary and their father. Fortunately, they are rescued by a small ship and manage to cross the sea. Finally safe on the island they are placed in a refugee camp along with several hundred others. Here they are safe from the beasts – for now. But two children alone in a world filled with lurking dangers, are never truly safe.

Then, one evening it turns out that Shetland isn’t as far from mainland Europe as one might think. The beasts attack the camp and Abid and Alva are on the run – again. Alone and terrified, they flee towards Lerwick, to warn about the coming danger, to find their father and, finally, safety.

Ingvild Bjerkeland continues to draw readers into this haunting universe with this intense and thrilling sequel. Even though it tells a different story, Nowhere to Hide, still lets us witness the unbreakable bond between siblings as they navigate a world on the brink of collapse.
